Walensee

Canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland

This is one of the largest lakes in Switzerland, it is located on two different cantons. You may hear it mentioned under the name Lake Walen or Lake Walenstadt, in reference to the nearby city of Walenstadt. The lake is surrounded by mountains on bothe sides, culminating at about 2350 meters. The landscape has inspired Franz Liszt, a Hungarian composer & virtuoso pianist for a peace named "Years of Pilgrimage".
